Focus on Literacy

During the 2024-25 school year, Southern Elementary put in place several supports focusing on literacy. A daily intervention time was established for each grade level to focus on specific, targeted instruction. Each pair of grade-level teachers met consistently to plan and evaluate intervention strategies. Likewise, monthly grade-level meetings with Mrs. Ware, our Title I/Reading Specialist, were held to discuss student progress. A data team was also established to provide instructional guidance based on data that was collected from each classroom. Southern elementary students demonstrated positive gains on various literacy tests from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. This could not have been done without the hard work of our students and staff.
