How Can I Help?

December 13, 2022

This is a question I get a lot from parents concerning their student’s literacy development. The good news is, there is a lot you can do, and it isn’t that hard. One of the easiest things you can do is have your child do repeated reads. Having several opportunities to read a passage leads to automaticity. A simple definition of automaticity is, a reader can decode without thinking about decoding. Repeated reads do not necessarily need to take a lot of time, usually, 50-200 words will serve the purpose and three rereads over three days would suffice. So check those backpacks and have your child read what’s in there to get started. If you need additional reading passages, contact me at school. I’d be happy to help.
