Spanish Club is BACK!

October 04, 2022

Spanish Club is BACK!

Dominique Clay

Spanish Club has been put on hold for the past couple of years, but now it’s back!  The focus of Spanish Club is to celebrate and learn more about Spanish and Hispanic cultures.  This year there are 14 members, and we are looking forward to trying out some new experiences.

One of the things that we are really excited about are Taco Tuesdays! About once a month, we are going to choose a Tuesday to get together to feast on tacos during lunch time!  This will be done buffet style with each person bringing a different topping or ingredient.  While we feast we’ll watch videos on Spanish speaking cultures and peoples and talk about new cultures and traditions.

We’re also looking forward to the possibility of taking Salsa or Tango classes from a local dance instructor.  Dance is integral to many Hispanic cultures and an opportunity to participate in such events is rare here in the midwest.  So being able to learn and incorporate dance and movement into our learning will be so much fun!

Other activities that we have considered are:

  • Visiting Hispanic art and culture museums
  • Participating in Día de los Muertos celebrations or exhibits at local colleges
  • Going out to eat at various Hispanic restaurants

Members are ordering club t-shirts and have already worked concessions to raise money for these various outings.

We are so excited to bring this club back to Southern and we are looking forward to learning and participating in these various cultural activities!
