Typical Preschool Day

March 05, 2018

Shining Stars Preschool believes that young children learn best when they are in a nurturing, positive and secure environment. We bring “learning” through play to children in a safe environment where they can express and practice their independence and have fun making new friends.

We provide children with a play-based learning environment to help them develop a love for learning.  Our fun and stimulating environment consist of centers including; blocks, dramatic play, music, puzzles, manipulatives, art, library, sensory, and math and science centers to help our students grow and learn.   These centers will facilitate learning about the student’s environment, learning social skills such as following rules and routines, solving problems, sharing, and managing feelings.  The centers will also build a foundation of math, literacy and science skills.

Our program utilizes multiple curriculums to teach our children.  The teachers plan developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of Mathematics, Literacy, Language, Physical Motor, Science, Arts, and Social/Emotional for the students to participate in based on thematic themes.  We also utilize resources in a curriculum called Zoo-Phonics that teach children how to read, spell and write the alphabet through animal representation of each letter with visual, sound and motion cues as well as a curriculum called Get Set For School which is a play-based curriculum that includes three programs designed to prepare children for school: Readiness & Writing, Language & Literacy, and Numbers & Math.

Children will be provided Breakfast, Lunch and a Snack (depending on site placement).  These meals are served in a family-style setting in which conversation is shared and encouraged.  Mealtime is a learning experience so the children will help set up their service, serve themselves, clean up messes and their service after meals.  They also may be encouraged to help with developmentally appropriate meal preparation at times.

Our goal is to prepare our students for kindergarten and have fun while doing it!!!!!
