The 8th grade JAG students recently attended Career Adventure Days hosted by IGNITE Pathways, and it was a great way to wrap up everything they have been learning about careers and career clusters throughout the year. The day really brought those lessons to life, giving students the chance to move beyond talking about careers and actually experience them.
Throughout the event, students rotated through 39 different hands-on career exploration stations. These ranged from simulation machines to building projects and skill-based activities. Students had the opportunity to try a wide variety of careers, but what stood out most was when they were able to choose a career that interested them and spend more time fully exploring it. That piece allowed them to connect what they’ve learned in class to what those jobs actually look like in the real world.
Students left the day with a lot of excitement and new interests. Many shared how much they enjoyed the hands-on experiences and the chance to try things they had never done before. Some talked about learning how to steer a plane, animate movies, and even explore topics like bionic arms, while others enjoyed working with flowers, learning about child care, or trying out different creative skills. Several students mentioned how fun it was to operate realistic equipment like tractors, heavy machinery, and sprayers, as well as getting to use tools, change a tire, practice welding through simulations, and explore plumbing.
More importantly, students began to see connections to their own futures. Experiences like piloting and animation sparked curiosity for some, while others discovered new interests in areas they hadn’t considered before. Along with the learning, students also enjoyed meeting new people and being in a different environment outside of the classroom.
Overall, Career Adventure Days was a valuable experience that helped students build confidence, explore new possibilities, and better understand the wide range of career paths available to them. It was a strong way to close out the year and continue encouraging students to think about their future in a hands-on and meaningful way.
