4 JAG Students attending State Career Development Conference all smiles after completing the day.

Four JAG students proudly represented Southern High School at the State Career Development Conference (CDC), competing in the Outstanding Chapter competition through Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). Throughout the day, students participated in the College and Career Expo, connected with employers and postsecondary programs, and completed an accompanying career exploration worksheet to reflect on new opportunities.

Students especially enjoyed networking with fellow JAG members and Specialists from across the state, building relationships and sharing ideas. They were also introduced to the variety of competitions offered at CDC, which helped them begin planning ways to get more involved next year. The experience gave the group fresh ideas and motivation to continue growing and strengthening the JAG program at Southern.

During the conference, students attended a keynote session from governor, Jim Pillen, who spoke about the importance of kindness, maintaining a positive attitude, and taking advantage of the opportunities JAG provides for future success. His message that “attitude determines your altitude” resonated strongly with students. They also reflected on the idea that growth comes from learning from the past.

Overall, the day was filled with learning, networking, and inspiration, and our students represented Southern with professionalism and pride.
