Mrs. Schluter’s Career Education Class

October 10, 2018

In Mrs. Schluter’s career education class, the students have started off their year strong in their efforts towards becoming more college and career ready.  Students began the quarter by taking career interest and skills surveys to discover various jobs that they might be interested in pursuing for their future careers.  They then explored these careers further to find out what skills and abilities are necessary for the job, what education level and experience they will need, and what the projected salary and job outlook look like for each job.  Each student had the opportunity to participate in a job shadow in which they spent anywhere from a half day to a full day the following someone around at a local business in their career field of interest to discover what a typical day looks like on the job.

Next, students had the opportunity to explore three different colleges of interest to find out programs of study offered, application and scholarship requirements, housing and meal plan options, and costs associated with attending each specific school.  To finish the quarter, students will be given information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities to help pay for their postsecondary ventures.
