Syllabus for High School PE I

Course Description: This PE class will begin to focus more on fitness and lifetime sports. Fitness and weight training will be emphasized. You will also learn games and activities that will help keep you active for a life time. This class will help you make the transition from previous PE classes to life time sports.

Class Expectations:

  • You must be dressed properly and ready for class four minutes after the tardy bell rings. Ready for class means you are at your station ready to start. You will need a separate change of clothes. Please keep these clothes clean. Proper clothing includes gym shorts or sweats, t-shirt, pair of socks, and a pair of shoes. Follow the dress code guidelines. If you don’t have all of these you will lose all points for this category.

  • No candy or gum in class. You will lose a point for chewing gum.

  • You may take a shower if you choose, but you still need to be dressed and on time to your next class. You will not be given a pass if your shower makes you late.

  • At the conclusion of class, you will wait in the gym until the bell rings for your next class. Do not leave the gym. This means ever! If you need to get a drink or go to the bathroom take care of that in the locker room. If this becomes a problem you will wait in the locker room.

  • You are expected to be on time, prepared, and come with a positive attitude. Rude and Disrespectful behavior will affect your grade. Things such as using the bathroom and getting a drink need to be taken care of before class starts.

Grading: Each day you will be given ten points. The following will explain how to keep those points.

  • One point for being on time and ready to begin class four minutes after the tardy bell rings.

  • Two points for dressing properly.

  • One point for gum

  • One point for warm up

  • Five points for having a positive attitude, and giving your best effort.

  • If you do not participate you will not earn your points for the day.

  • In addition to the five daily points, quiz grades and skill tests will also be factored in.

  • You will lose all your points for choosing to sit out, having to sit out, not doing your cardio, being sent to the office, not giving any effort all day, having a poor attitude all day.

You will not be allowed to sit out during class unless you have a note from a doctor or parent. Every time you sit out you will receive a full detention and be sent to the cubes on that day. You will also get an assignment that will be due the following day at the start of class. You will receive a detention every day until it is finished to my satisfaction. Please note that anytime you sit out you will lose all points for that day. If you are sitting out because of injury you will be given an assignment that needs to be turned in the following day. If it is not turned in you will lose the points for the day you were absent.

Behavior- The first time there is a problem you will be warned. The second time you will receive a detention. The third will result in removal from class and a detention.

Medical: If you are in school you are expected to participate unless you have a doctor’s note explaining why you can not. I don’t feel good is not a reason to sit out. If you don’t have a note it counts as a NO PARTICIPATION The note must be present the day you are to sit out. No exceptions. Every absence over ten will result in a zero for that day Every tardy after your third one will result in an absence. Also every tardy after three will result in a full detention.
