Performances at the Good Samaritan Home,(schedule permitting), will be during the school day.
Bad weather could cause a change in dates. You are still expected to be at the concert should this happen. It is also possible a program would not be rescheduled due to lack of a date available.
This is a performance class. Performances are worth 15-25 pts. of your grade. You are expected to be on stage. It is YOUR responsibility to clear your calendar of conflicts of any kind.
Basic Expectations:
1. Do your best, work to your ability , and work to improve at all times.
2. Show respect for other students, teachers, building and equipment.
3. Be in your seat on time with your music ready to work.
4. Listen to and follow all directions.
5. Concentrate and cooperate; includes sitting without talking
when asked; using correct singing posture; no GUM in class.
6. All students will need to help move equipment and follow general classroom rules about restroom usage, noise, and participation for all activities. This includes make-up work for clubs, daily absences, or performance absences.
7. You are expected to stay for an entire program, not just show up for your part and leave. This is a display of basic good manners. Plan
accordingly.
8. Follow school dress code during the day whether we are in Wymore
or at another school, this includes Districts and all other concerts.
Concert Dress: When we travel you MUST MEET SCHOOL DRESS CODE AND NO JEANS WITH HOLES at any event. Look your best representing your school.
Girls: black shoes, nylons, and dress nicely under robe,(black slacks are fine).
Guys: black shoes, black pants and black socks that do not leave bare leg showing please.
Failure to participate in a concert in the required “costume” will result in your grade being lowered 20 pts, and even more points for repeat offenders. You are part of an ensemble and your appearance reflects on all involved. THIS INCLUDES POPS and Fine Arts Night.
Choir T-shirts; your cost $15.00; the rest comes from concession money.
Robes are assigned. Please hang up correctly after each use.
There is a fee of $8.00 for the year so that your robe may be dry-cleaned. If robe becomes dirty, or wrinkled, it may need to go to the cleaners a second time and you will be billed. Hang it up right, close the bag, and you should not have any problems.
When we are moving equipment, please, everyone helps.
Grading:
Based on your daily participation, cooperation, and attitude. Attendance at performances is mandatory. Using music daily until told to sing from memory.
Memorization of parts as required; working on correct vowel and consonant sounds as a team member; theory, history, sight-singing, and computer work. Written work as required by the teacher and the state department of education.
If you loose your folder, the replacement cost is $8.50 for the folder itself. Music cost is extra. Please take care of your folder and the music inside. Warm-ups books are $5.00 each if yours is turned in with damage or lost.
ABSENCES: If you are repeatedly missing classes due to illness, activities, whatever your reason, you will be asked to make-up class time and come in and practice your part in the music. Constant absences hurt the productivity of the class as a whole and hurt your personal improvement and prevent you from earning participation points. After FIVE absences in a quarter you will be asked to make-up time by signing up for a lesson on the music we did in class. How much time and when will be determined by the personal schedule of your teacher and yourself. If you are already scheduled for a lesson time, it may be possible to include the missed material in that time slot. If not, you must select an open time on the schedule and make up the time before the end of the quarter or before the next performance. Work schedule conflicts are your responsibility and are never acceptable for missing a performance. Birthdays, baby-sitting, and lack of a ride are also examples of unexcused absences and you will NOT be allowed to make up work. Plan ahead. You will not receive an “A” if absences are not made-up. This includes illness .
IF you are ill, have a parent call my house and leave a message if you cannot reach anyone at the school. 645-3384; email smendyk@southernschools.org
First Quarter; Class participation: 100 %;
Second Quarter; Fall Concert,, 25 %, Christmas concert, 15 %, Good Sam 5 %
Conference Clinic 20% ; class participation 35%
Third Quarter; Class participation; 55 %, POPS concert,20 Spring concert 25 %,
Fourth Quarter; , District contest 25 %, Fine Arts Night, 20%; class participation 40 %, written work 5 %.
(Percentages will be adjusted should performances be dropped or added. The above list is just a beginning point).
If you are involved in a school activity where we pay a fee for you, and then you do not attend this activity for any reason, you will be asked to pay the fee money back and cover cost of any materials bought for your use. (*This includes All-State auditions, UNK honor choir, contest fees, Cd cost etc....)
Students who persist in disrespectful or disruptive behaviors, including tardiness, will receive detentions and grades will be docked. Remember, it is school policy that with 3 tardies you receive a detention to make up missed class time.
CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE AUDITORIUM for ANY PERFORMANCES, AT MUSIC CONTESTS, AT CONFERENCE CLINIC or at any other performance the class might attend.
Students caught using cell phones at these times will have their grade docked AND BE given a detention and possibly Saturday school. This is class policy .
Choir Lettering: Students earn a letter by assisting with vocal activities. Students must earn a certain number of points based on performance attendance and other assistance. Lettering is not automatic.
You start with 100 % each quarter. Remember, unlike many other classes, your participation and behavior has an effect on many other people. Go for that A and let’s all have a great year!
