Class expectations:

What you can expect from me: A fair teacher who wants each student to work to their potential. Everyone has the ability to learn and I expect each and every one of you to utilize that ability. My class format is different than some teachers. I do not stand up and lecture for the entire class period or make you take notes for the entire hour. I do however like to have fun while learning social studies! There will be a lot of classroom discussion, participation, and class activities either in groups or with partners. At times you will be required to work alone or take some notes while I discuss things but that will not be done on a regular basis. You will be graded on daily work, tests, quizzes, participation, attitude, and effort. I expect everyone to come into class with a positive attitude and ready to learn. Park your bad attitude at the door and I will do the same!

What I expect from you: A positive attitude and for you to have all utensils including your text on a daily basis unless otherwise specified. Since I do not assign a lot of homework, I do expect assigned work to be completed upon the given deadline. Work will be accepted after the given deadline but late points will be deducted after that time. But it is always better to receive some points even if it is late rather than not receive any points at all! You will also receive one free homework pass per quarter that may be used on an approved daily assignment. Passes may not be used for tests, quizzes, major projects, or anything given ample class time to finish.

Classroom participation is expected and welcomed at all times as long as it is an appropriate discussion and the appropriate time to do so. Extra credit will be offered from time to time. Progress Reports will be given on a fairly regular basis and often times are expected to be returned with a parent signature upon the given deadline. They are not optional; it will also be an assignment, which is expected to be turned in. That is designed to not only keep you and your parents/guardians informed but also to give your grade an easy boost!

Names should always appear on your papers, which are turned in. If no name is on them they will go into a no name file where you can claim it for deducted points. All assignments are to be done in pencil or pen provided that it is not pink or red ink. Please make sure your assignment is readable or you may be asked to redo it again…for late points. The standard grading scale for Southern Jr/Sr High will be used on a regular basis unless a rubric is used (Details will be given later on that type of grading.)

Because you have new books this year, I expect for books to be covered AT ALL TIMES!!!!! NO EXCUSES!

Finally, the best time for you or your parents to reach me is either before or after school or during my planning period at 645-3326 or at home at 228-1627.
