Welcome to speech. The purpose and objective of speech class
is to create and enhance public speaking skills, including
small settings, such as the classroom or interviews to
larger settings, such as competitions.
Materials needed for class:
1” 3 ring notebook
Paper
Pen-Black
Pencil with eraser
1st Nine Weeks:
Building a good speech
Attention grabbers
Memorization of Prose and Poetry
Vocabulary-L-J
Speech terms
Outlining for a speech
SPAM- Determining Situation, Purpose, Audience, and Method
Debating research-Case writing
Lincoln-Douglass Debates (3)
Personal Reading Time-Bring a book of your choosing to class
each day
2nd Nine Weeks:
Persuasive Speech (2)-With visual aides
Terms to know
Essential Vocabulary
Advertisement at Persuasion
Researching for a topic
Informative speeches with power points (3)
Reading a short story with expression
Public Forum and Public Policy Speaking
Personal Reading Time-Bring a book of your choosing to class
each day
Semester Exam-will include L-J vocabulary and a speech
3rd Nine Weeks:
Research

4th Nine Weeks:
Complete Semester with debating

Semester Exam-comprehensive over year and will include L-J
and a speech
Grading:
Each speech is 100 points
Daily Work 10-25 points
Tests 100 points and count twice
Quizzes 15-30 points
Homework 10- 25 points
Makeup work must be complete within two days of return to
school. It is up to the student to come to me to get makeup
work. If it is not made up, it will result in a zero for
that grade. If a student knows they will be out prior to the
absence, they must get work before absence and turn it in
before absence.
Any student caught cheating, including plagiarizing, will
receive a 0 and a detention. Work detentions will be given
when a student does not complete homework, as each student
has class time to complete the work.
