MINUTES
BOARD OF EDUCATION
Feb. 8, 2010
7:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by President Doug Argo at 7:45 p.m. with the following members present: Doug Argo, Terry Milligan, Harlan Rickers, Hannah Zimmerling and student board member, Matt Zvolanek.
Moved by Rickers, seconded by Milligan to approve the absence of board members Carmen McKeever and Dave Creevan.
Carried: 4-0
Voting Yes: Argo, Milligan, Rickers, Zimmerling
Reasonable advance publicized notice of the meeting was given according to law by publishing, a designated method for giving notice of the school district. Reasonable advance notice was simultaneously given to board members and a copy of their acknowledgment of receipt of notice and the agenda attached. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
President Doug Argo announced that a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the back of the board of education meeting room.

The superintendent reported on Labor Relations conference, buildings and grounds committee, winter sports programs, shop progress and elementary technology progress.
The elementary principal reported on enrollment, Reading First program, parent teacher conferences, elementary cookie dough fundraiser and writing assessments.
The secondary principal reported on enrollment, SCC Business Contest, alternative school update, conference art show, steering committee, parent teacher conferences, class registration for 2010-11 and honor rolls.
The board recognized the following students:
SCC Business Contest:
Colby Argo, 1st place in accounting, 3rd place in proofreading and spelling
Elisa Rempe, 7th place in proofreading and spelling
Pioneer Conference Art Show:
Matt Zvolanek, Best in Show
McKayla Fletcher, 1st in painting
Matt Mittan, 1st in photo
Moved by Rickers, seconded by Zimmerling to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the January 11th regular board meeting, to adopt the agenda as proposed, approve financial reports and bills from General Fund and Special Building Fund, compliance with policy 204.07.

Moved by Milligan, seconded by Zimmerling to approve the use of school vans for the Yellowstone trip.

Moved by Rickers, seconded by Milligan to approve the renewal of the softball cooperative with Diller-Odell for 2010-2011.

Moved by Rickers, seconded by Milligan to approve the housing of our own alternative school for 2010-11.

Moved by Zimmerling, seconded by Rickers to not alter the 2010-11 calendar for September parent teacher conference days.

Moved by Milligan, seconded by Zimmerling to approve a contract to Melissa Wach as a special education paraprofessional at the elementary.

Carmen McKeever entered the meeting at 8:58 p.m.
Moved by Zimmerling, seconded by Milligan to go into executive session at 8:58 p.m. for the purpose of prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual.

Dave Creevan entered the meeting at 9:45 p.m.
Moved by Zimmerling, seconded by McKeever to come out of executive session at 10:58 p.m.
