Objectives: This class will give the student an overview of what is important for learning a language, particularly Spanish. The student will need to be motivated to work in cooperative learning groups and be able to increase the student’s reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in the target language. The class will consist of 18 weeks and the instructor will speak both English and Spanish throughout the semester.
Grading System: Daily 10%
Verbal 20%
Projects 40% (4 projects each are worth 10%)
Evaluations 30% (2 evaluations each are worth 15%)
Classroom Rules:
1. Bring a good attitude and a smile
2. Be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be tardy
3. Bring materials to class every day that are needed for Spanish class
4. Do not leave the room without permission
5. Speak in Spanish as much as possible
6. You may use the restroom during the first 5 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class time (depending on the teacher’s class room instruction)
7. Disciplinary problems will be discussed, if needed, after class, before or after school or by appointment. Not during class time!
8. Gum, food, candy, or pop will not be permitted unless for exceptions made by the teacher.
Be ready to learn and have fun!!!
Expectations
1.Respect for one another (i.e.; if something doesn’t belong to you ask for permission before taking it)
2.Ask questions – if teacher is speaking in Spanish too fast, you are confused, or totally lost, please ask questions. THERE ARE NO WRONG QUESTIONS!!!
3.Have all homework, reports, dialogues, and other assignments turned in on the due date. If you were in class attendance and/or are aware of the due date of the assignment and the assignment is not done it is a zero.
4.When missing a class please talk to the teacher before leaving to get assignments. Assignments will need to be completed before leaving.
5.Participation is mandatory and students must be willing interact with other students.
6.I will try very hard to have grades available on a weekly basis (Monday) therefore the student may know at all times his/her status in the class.
7.When trying to get the teacher’s attention, please raise your hand and allow the teacher to say your name before you begin speaking.
8.If a student disagrees with anything the teacher has made a decision about, please be willing to come in and visit one-on-one to discuss it appropriately.
9.If the teacher gives the student a detention please serve it in the teacher’s room. If the student is a “no-show” the detention will be referred to room 101.
Consequences: 1st violation – verbal warning, 2nd violation – before or after school detention, 3rd violation – room 101.
Semana 1: Explanation of classroom expectations, classroom rules, class syllabus, book check out, creation of Portfolios, Practice of writing goals and reflections, Syllabus quiz, and choosing Spanish names.
Semana 2 y 3: Begin objectives for pre Tema, Begin greetings, numbers 1-100, time, body parts, Alphabet, Days of the week, Months of the year, and weather.
Semana 4: Cultural project: El Calendario Azteca and presentation.
Semana 5 y 6: Begin Objectives for Tema 1A talking about what you and others like, talking about what you and others like, talking about what you like to do, talking about what you don’t like.
Semana 7: Evaluation of semana 2-6, and preparation for the evaluation.
Semana 8: Unit of Día De Los Muertos (1st semester) Unit on Hispanic Dance (2nd semester)
Semana 9 y 10: Objectives for Tema 1B, introducing yourself and others, describing yourself and others, and colors
Semana 11: Power Point “Quien Soy” and presentation
Semana 12 y 13: Objectives for Tema 2A, talking about your class schedule, talking about different types of classes, Grammar lesson – subject pronouns and verb conjugation.
Semana 14: Evaluation of week 8-13, and preparation for the evaluation.
Semana 15 y 16: Cultural activity Los Numeros Mayas (Mayan Numbers) and presentation
Semana 17 y 18: Prepare portfolio for semester evaluation and prepare binder. Take semester evaluation.
