There is a JH Dance this weekend, but it is NOT a school sponsored activity.

Monday's Lunch Menu: Ham Patty on Bun, Nacho Chips w/Nacho Sauce, Butterscotch Brownies, Fruit & Milk.


Monday's Breakfast Menu: Cereal, Toast, Fruit, Orange Juice & Milk.

Students are not allowed to be in the building, without permission - from a staff member, before 7:45 AM. Students who are walking to school need to stay outside or between the commons area doors until the 7:45 bell rings. Also, no outside food or drinks are to be brought into the commons area.


Dress Code Reminder: Winter coats, trench coats, long overcoats, and letter jackets are to be stored in lockers between the hours of 8:05 am and 3:36 pm. These items are not to be worn during the school day.


JH BBB next Monday at 4pm. This is the make-up game at the Superior Tourney. Please dismiss basketball boys at 1:30, bus will leave at 1:45. Pick up your premake-up slip in the office.

FBLA will be selling Crush Soda for Valentine's Day. Selling 3 flavors - Orange, Strawberry & Grape. Purchase these from any FBLA member or Ms. Isherwood. Cost is $1.50 per bottle. They will be delivered Feb. 13th in your last period class. You can purchase pop from now until Feb. 9th.


Parent/Teacher Conferences this evening & Friday morning. Thursday from 5-9pm and Friday 8am - Noon. Please tell your parents to come to the office FIRST before seeing teachers so they can pick up your Mid-Quarter Progress Reports and other important information.


Due to the lack of participation, EducationQuest will not be coming to Southern to help with the FAFSA experience Thursday evening. If your family made an appointment, they will be contacting you for completing the FAFSA


ACT Test Saturday. Remember to take your admissions ticket, photo ID, calculator & 2, #2 pencils.

BSBDA Lightning Softball Sign Up - will be Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at the Wymore Fire Hall (new location) at 3:30 pm. Bring Uniforms from last year if you have not checked them in. Dues are $25 and ASA insurance is $25 with no deductible. OPT out of gym fundraiser is still $25. If you do not turn uniform in you will be charged.

Seniors who plan to attend SCC and need to improve their ACT score, should take the COMPASS test. Sign up in Mrs. Goes' office if you want to take this test.

Girls Basketball Subdistrict C2-1 at Beatrice H.S. next week. Southern girls play Tri County at 8pm on Tuesday.

The elementary staff needs our help - to make their family fun night a success. If you do not plan to play in the freshman volleyball tournament that night, please consider helping at the elementary. Sign up sheet is in Mrs. Goes' office.


Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors - who are interested in a health career and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, should sign up to attend the Health Career Fair in Fairbury on Feb. 15. You would be gone for your morning classes and Southern will provide transportation. Sign up in Mrs. Goes' office before Feb. 10.


Cheerleading practice this evening at 6:00. Bring your poms!


GBB/BBB Friday against Thayer-Central in Hebron - JV Boys & JV Girls will play at the same time at 4:30. JV Boys will play in the Intermediate gym and the JV Girls will play in the H.S. gym. Also in the H.S. gym - Varsity girls play at 6:15 and Varsity boys play at 8:00. GOOD LUCK!!!


Seniors who are planning to attend college, need to complete a FAFSA. Les Monroe from Education Quest has agreed to come to Southern on Feb 9th from 2:00 to 7:00 to help you with this process. You will need to call EducationQuest at 1 800 303 3745 and ask for option #1 to set up an appointment. Also, visit their website educationquest.org and get the necessary checklist on items you need to bring to the meeting. Les will be working on a computer to electronic file your FAFSA. This means your child and one parent needs a PIN. You can get that PIN pin.ed.gov


UNL has announced their summer academic camps for grades 9-12 for the Fall 2012 year. There is a cost to these camps but some scholarships are available. go to bigredcamps.unl.edu to register.


A representative from Northwest Missouri State - will be here on Feb 14th at 1:30


The deadline is Feb 15 for those seniors who want to apply - for the Alegent Health Scholarships. This scholarship must be completed online and you can request the application by asking Mrs. Goes to forward the application to you. You must be interested in pursuing a degree in the health care field.


UNL - has enrollment deposit fee of $250 by May 1. All scholarships must be accepted or declined by May 1. Honors Program deadline is March 1. Jeffrey S Raikes School of Computer Science and Management will continue to accept applications until March 1.


K-State has announced their Junior Day - to be March 30, April 16 and May 4. Their last two senior days are January 30 and February 6. Sophomores can visit campus on April 21 along with the all campus Open House. All of these days should have registration materials sent in one week before the day you plan to visit.


Seniors who want to apply - for the Gabby Matthes Memorial Endowed Scholarship should apply through the Lincoln Community Foundation. Deadline is March 15th.


The Knights of AK SAR BEN Foundation - is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 AK SAR BEN Friends Community College Scholarships. It is available to any student attending a community college in Nebraska or western Iowa. Ten $1000 scholarships are awarded and the deadline is March 15. Applications are available online at www.aksarben.org


Seniors interested in pursuing a college degree in business- should apply for the ISM-Nebraska scholarship. It is worth $1500 and the deadline is March 16. The website is www.napm-ne.org


Seniors who are pursuing a degree in law or legal support, should apply for the Nebraska Legal Professional Association. There are two scholarships: first place is worth $1250 and second place is worth $750 Deadline is March 31, 2012
