MINUTES
BOARD OF EDUCATION
August 9, 2010
7:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by President Doug Argo at 7:30 p.m. with the following members present: Doug Argo, Carmen McKeever, Terry Milligan, Harlan Rickers.
Reasonable advance publicized notice of the meeting was given according to law by publishing, a designated method for giving notice of the school district. Reasonable advance notice was simultaneously given to board members and a copy of their acknowledgment of receipt of notice and the agenda attached. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
President Doug Argo announced that a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the back of the board of education meeting room.
Moved by Milligan seconded by Rickers to excuse the absence of Dave Creevan and Hannah Zimmerling.

The superintendent reported on building projects, administrator days, Rule 10, handbook approval , beginning of school ceremonies.
The elementary principal reported on projected enrollment, Jump Start, Reading First and elementary summer projects.
The secondary principal reported on projected enrollment, 7th grade orientation, parent student handbook, new teacher inservice, administrator days
The following Southern students were recognized for Gage County Fair Achievements:
Tricia Goes - Beef Showmanship Champion, Sr. Showmanship Champion, Champion Gelbvieh; Tricia was also the champion of the National Gelbvieh Breeding Heifer at the American Gelbvieh Assn. Jr. National competition in TexasGelbvieh;
Kaylee Ames - Bucket Calf Champion
Jon Acton - Sheep Showmanship Champion, Intermediate Division
Preston Acton - Sheep Showmanship Champion , Jr. Division
J.W. Schell - Horse Showmanship Champion, Jr. Division, and Linden Tree Champion, Jr. Division
Isabelle Zito - Trail Riding, Jr. Champion, and Western Riding, Jr. Champion

Moved by Rickers, seconded by McKeever to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the July 19th board meeting, to adopt the agenda as proposed, approve financial reports and bills from General Fund and Special Building Fund, compliance with policy 204.07.

Moved by Argo, seconded by Milligan to ratify a resolution for use of the Qualified School Construction Bond funds.

Moved by Rickers, seconded by McKeever to approve the option enrollment of Taylor Koch to Tri County and the option enrollment of Cheyenne Reed from Beatrice.

Moved by Rickers, seconded by Argo to approve handbooks for certified staff, paraeducators, transportation, food service and cheerleading as recommended.
