MINUTES
BOARD OF EDUCATION
Sept 14, 2009
9:47 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by President Doug Argo at 9:47 p.m. with the following members present: Doug Argo, Dave Crreevan, Carmen McKeever, Terry Milligan, Harlan Rickers, Hannah Zimmerling and student board member, Matt Zvolanek.
Reasonable advance publicized notice of the meeting was given according to law by publishing, a designated method for giving notice of the school district. Reasonable advance notice was simultaneously given to board members and a copy of their acknowledgment of receipt of notice and the agenda attached. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
President Doug Argo announced that a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the back of the board of education meeting room.

The superintendent reported on technology purchases, school vehicles, community coffee dedicating the piano, SEA proposal , Rule 10.
The elementary principal reported on enrollment, Reading 1st grant, preschool, student council and safety drills.
The secondary principal reported on enrollment, John Baylor Test Prep, alternative school, safety drills, SRS, career fair, community coffee.
The student board member reported on athletic events, homecoming dance and the student advisory board.
Music boosters will host a presentation of the grand piano donated by the Thomas Foundation on September 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the commons area.
Moved by Rickers, seconded by Zimmerling to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the August 10th board meeting, to adopt the agenda as proposed, apprive financial reports and bills from General Fund and Special Building Fund, compliance with policy 204.07, approve final August claim list.

Moved by McKeever, seconded by Zimmerling, to approve the second reading of the board calendar.

Moved by Argo, seconded by Rickers, to approve contract amendments as presented.

Moved by Rickers seconded by Milligan to approve 11:30 a.m. dismissal on 11/9/09.

Moved by McKeever, seconded by Zimmerling to approve option enrollment requests as presented.
Carried: 6-0
Moved by Milligan, seconded by Zimmerling, to go into executive session at 10:12 p.m. for protection of the public interest.
Carried: 6-0
Moved by Creevan, seconded by Rickers, to come out of executive session at 10:24 p.m.
Carried: 6-0
Moved by Milligan, seconded by Rickers to adjourn the meeting at 10:26 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Southern Board of Education will be October 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
