Goals: (Metas)
Students in Spanish 1 will begin to develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the Spanish culture and language. Students will be expected to actively participate in all class activities as well as individual work outside of class. Students will begin to develop personal proficiency through an active use of the language. Spanish 1 will focus on proficiency mainly in the present and past tense throughout the course.
Grading System:
The grading for each semester will include:
Verbal participation 20%
Projects 40% (4 projects each are worth 10%)
Daily 10%
Evaluations 30%( 2 evaluations per semester each are worth 15%)
Classroom Rules:
1. Bring a good attitude and a smile
2. Be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be tardy
3. Bring materials to class every day that are needed for Spanish class
4. Do not leave the room without permission
5. Speak in Spanish as much as possible
6. You may use the restroom during the first 5 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class time (depending on the teacher’s class room instruction)
7. Disciplinary problems will be discussed, if needed, after class, before or after school or by appointment. Not during class time!
8. Gum, food, candy, or pop will not be permitted unless for exceptions made by the teacher.
9. Be ready to learn and have fun!!!
Expectations
1. Respect for one another (i.e.; if something doesn’t belong to you ask for permission to touch)
2. Ask questions – If teacher is speaking too fast, you are confused, or totally lost, please ask questions. THERE ARE NO WRONG QUESTIONS!!!
3. Have all homework, reports dialogues, and etc. turned in on the due date. If you were in class attendance and are aware of the due date of the assignment and the assignment is not done it is a zero.
4. When missing a class please talk to the teacher before leaving to get assignments. The assignments need to be completed before leaving for any activity.
5. Participation is mandatory and students must be willing to interact with other students
6. I will try very hard to have grades available on a weekly basis (Monday) there fore the student may know at all times his/her status in the class.
7. When trying to get the teacher’s attention, please raise your hand and allow the teacher to say your name before you begin speaking.
8. If a student disagrees with anything the teacher has decided be willing to come in and visit one-on-one to discuss it appropriately.
9. If the teacher gives the student a detention please serve it in the teacher’s room. If the student is a “no-show” the detention will be referred to the office.
10. Consequences: 1st violation- verbal warning, 2nd – before or after school detention, 3rd violation- office referral.
PRIMER SEMESTRE
Semana 1- Explanation of classroom expectations, classroom rules, class syllabus, book check out, creation of Portfolios, practice writing goals and reflections, syllabus quiz, and choosing Spanish names.
Semana 2 y 3 – Begin objectives for ¡Adelante! Countries, El alfabeto, los colores, classroom commands, numbers 1-100, Begin objectives for capítulo 1, introductions, talk about likes and dislikes
Semana 4 - Power point presentation “Me Llamo…”
Semana 5 y 6 - Begin objectives for capítulo 2, talk about what you want and need, describe your room, talk about what you and others need to do
Semana 7 – Cultural Activity “La escuela espanola”
Semana 8 y 9 - Begin objectives for capítulo 3, talk about class schedules, Telling time, Describe people and things, talking about different types of classes.
Semana 10 – Cultural Activity “Día de Los Muertos”
Semana 11 – preparation for evaluation of semana 1-9, Evaluation of semana 1-9
Semana 12 y 13 Cultural Activity “El Calendario Azteca”, Creation of “Juegos” for learning
Semana 14 Presentations of “Juegos”, evaluation of “Juegos”
Semana 15 Begin objectives for capítulo 4, Talking about your free time, Talking about going out with friends, talking about where things are located, days of the week, talk about dates, months of the year.
Semana 16 y 17 Presentation of “Mi anuncio personal”, Cultural activity “Las Posadas”, Prepare portfolios for final evaluation
Semana 18 Take final evaluation, Finish cultural activity “Las Posadas”

Segunda Semestre
Semana 1 y 2 Finish capítulo 4, review primer semestre
Semana 3 y 4 Begin capítulo 5 give objectives, Talking about what you and others do in a typical week, Talking about what you and others do during different seasons, and Talking about the weather
Semana 5 Presentation of “Prognastico del tiempo”
Semana 6 Cultural Activity “Mi Quincenera”
Semana 7 y 8 Begin objectives for capítulo 6 be able to describe your family, be able to discuss problems and give advice, talking about doing chores around the house.
Semana 9 Presentation of “Mi Familia”, preparation for evaluation de semana 1-9
Semana 10 Finish preparation for evaluation de semana 1-9, take evaluation of semana 1-9.
Semana 11 Cultural Activity “La Semana Santa”
Semana 12 y 13 Begin objectives for capítulo 7, being able to talk on the telephone, being able to extend and accept an invitation, being able to make plans, talking about places to visit.
Semana 14 Presentation “La llamada telefónica”, preparation of “La llamada telefónica”
Semana 15 y 16 Cultural activities “El Baile Latino” and “Cinco de Mayo” celebration. Evaluation of semana 11-16. Take Evaluation.
Semana 17 y 18 Preparation of portfolio for final evaluation. Take Final evaluation.
