Nebraska Colleges to be Highlighted at Southern

After reading an article in one of her professional journals, Patty Goes, Southern Counselor, got the idea to promote education beyond high school by making the opportunities more visible. Each classroom in our high school building is being named after a postsecondary institution.
According to Mrs. Goes, "We are hoping that each college will supply us with a pennant, poster or some information about their campus that we can display in the classroom. We invited 22 four year collegs and 19 other programs such as two year colleges from Nebraska to send us the materials to display as well as a T-shirt that teachers could wear on designated days."
The intent is for students to see the variety of opportunities that Nebraska offers for them to pursue some additional education beyond high school. It seems to be working as students and staff have been asking more questions about different programs than ever before. September 3 was the first day for staff to wear the T-shirts and it was a fun day to see the variety that we had from Scottsbluff to Omaha. A thank you will be sent to those post secondary institutions who shared with us materials to decorate our rooms. Be watching for more educational awareness opportunities this year.
