APRIL BOARD MINUTES

MINUTES
BOARD OF EDUCATION
April 14, 2008
7:30 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by President Margaret Michaelis at 7:38 p.m. with the following members present: Doug Argo, Gretchen Lauby, Margaret Michaelis, Terry Milligan, Kelli Murphy.

Guests in attendance were John Linder and Patty Goes.

Reasonable advance publicized notice of the meeting was given according to law by publishing , a designated method for giving notice of the school district. Reasonable advance notice was simultaneously given to board members and a copy of their acknowledgment of receipt of notice and the agenda attached. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

President Margaret Michaelis announced that a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the back of the board of education meeting room.

Moved by Lauby, seconded by Milligan to approve the minutes of the March 10, 2008 regular board of education meeting.

C. D. Bids for the Month were as follows:

The superintendent reported on legislative issues, career academy, end of school activities, teacher appreciation day, elementary safety issues, 2007 Risk Factor Survey. Doug Argo reported on the NRCSA Convention.

The elementary principal reported on enrollment, Reading First Program , achievement testing, fun and field day, kindergarten orientation, preschool summer school, Jump Start and a teacher recommendation.

The secondary principal reported on enrollment, video equipment, FBLA bloodmobile, senior high quiz bowl, Civil War Seminar and student council and student board of education elections.

Moved by Argo, seconded by Murphy to approve consent agenda as follows: resignation of Candy Ebeling from Food Service Staff with regrets and thanks for her service to Southen Schools; approve employment agreement for Amanda Johnson as school cook; approve contract for Erin Trusty as elementary special education teacher for 2008-09; option enrollment of Josh Dorothy to Beatrice for 2008-09; approve contract with Beatrice Community Hospital for a school nurse for 2008-09 at a cost of $7,665; approve the Catastrophic Insurance Contract with Student Assurance Sevices for 2008-09.

Discussion was held regarding the potential and process for a levy override.
