COURSE TITLE:  7th Grade Keyboarding

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS: 

 

Student willing and ready to learn—Good Positive attitude!!

Pencil or Pen

Folder with pockets

Loose-leaf notebook paper

            3.   Good school attendance

            4.   Good Work Ethic

           

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 

Students will be required to complete daily assignments before taking a unit examination.

Students must complete all daily and test work as assigned with a grade of 70 percent or above in order to take any further Computer Applications courses.

 

SPECIFIC COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 

a.  passing grade—70 percent or higher based on the handbook grading scale.

b.  integrity—Students cheating, including plagiarism, will result in the student receiving a zero on the

assignment(s) or test  and will serve detention time according to the instructors decision.

c.  etiquette guidelines—All standard classroom etiquette will be followed.  This course

is designed to be a positive interactive experience for all involved.  Inappropriate language or comments will result in lowering of grade, detention time, or removal from class.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

The student(s) will:

      act appropriately in the classroom

learn correct fingering and location of the keys on the keyboard. (alphabetic, numeric, symbols)

use proper techniques

start software packages already installed on the computer

develop rhythm and control in keying process

save documents to server or disk

print to various printers within the building.

learn to use punctuation and tab keys.

use word wrap.

use formatting skills such as alignment, indentations, spacing.

demonstrate the ability to type sentences using correct keyboarding techniques.

be able to compose their thoughts at the keyboard.

use spell/grammar check features.

be able to compose paragraphs using correct capitalization and punctuation.

be able to take timed tests at a minimum of 20 gwam with three errors or less on a three-minute timed writing.

use correct touch method for operating numeric keypad.

learn to type and compose personal and business letters.

learn to type simplified memos.

learn to type unbound reports

develop two PowerPoint presentations.

incorporate computer skills with other subject areas.

produce simple desktop publishing documents.

possibly do simple spreadsheets and databases.

possibly do exercises using handheld computers.

Internet Safety

 

LATE PAPERS 10 POINT DEDUCTION PER DAY.

Pre-make up work for activities missing class or student will receive a zero.

Students are to work on assigned work for Keyboarding and not other subjects during class time.

Work will be made up between 3:32 and 4.

--Work Ethic                                               --15%  Each student starts out the day with five points.  These points include—(1) being to class on time and in your seat, working when the bell rings, (2) having materials necessary for class, (3) homework/class assignment done, (4) conduct/behavior in class, and (5) participation in class discussions.  A point will be deducted for each of these daily tasks a student does not fulfill.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

 

Students are to follow the Southern High Technology Policy as stated in the Parent/Student Handbook.  It is your responsibility to read the handbook.

 

Please be responsible for your workstation—Pick up papers, push in chair, put away books or handouts.

 

  • Daily assignments will be placed in a file folder and handed in daily for checking.
  • Techniques observed daily.
  • Major tests will be announced.

 

Your NAME AND PAGE NUMBERS must be placed in the header section of your paper unless directed otherwise OR IT WILL NOT BE GRADED.

 

Your files MUST be on the server or disk or you will receive a zero and detention time.  YOU DO NOT DELETE FILES UNLESS DIRECTED TO DO SO.

 

Students will follow Mrs. Zimmerman’s  4 P’S:

 

PUNCTUAL—One tardy—after that you will serve detention time. You will start with 15 minutes.  Additional tardies five minutes add on time.

PREPARED—All materials with you—no going to locker to get materials.

POLITE—Respect to others—FOLLOW THE GOLDEN RULE

POSITIVE—I Can attitude

 

ABSENCES

 

It is the student’s responsibility to get class assignments and to completed within two class days of an absence.  This must be done before or after school, not during class.  DO NOT get behind in this class as it will put you at an extreme disadvantage.

SEMESTER TESTS

 

All students are required to take a semester test.  The semester test will count ten percent of your grade.
