Syllabus Spanish 1

Capitulos:  (Chapters) 1-12

Goals:  (Metas)

     Students in Spanish 1 will begin to develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the Spanish culture and language.  Students will be expected to actively participate in all class activities as well as individual work outside of class.  Students will begin to develop personal proficiency through an active use of the language.  Spanish 1 will focus on proficiency mainly in the present and past tense throughout the course.

Grading System:

     The grading for each semester will include:

      Verbal participation 25%

      1 Major project        15%

      Daily Assignments    20%

      Tests                       40% (4 tests per semester)

Classroom Rules:

1.      Bring a good attitude and a smile

2.     Be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be tardy

3.     Bring materials to class every day that are needed for Spanish class

4.     Do not leave the room without permission

5.     Speak in Spanish as much as possible

6.     You may use the restroom during the first 5 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class time ( depending on the teacher’s class room instruction)

7.     Disciplinary problems will be discussed, if needed, after class, before or after school or by appointment.  Not during class time!

8.     Gum, food, candy, or pop will not be permitted unless for exceptions made by the teacher.

9.     Be ready to learn and have fun!!!

Expectations

1.      Respect for one another (ie; if something doesn’t belong to you ask for permission to touch)

2.     Ask questions – If teacher is speaking too fast, you are confused, or totally lost, please ask questions.  THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS!!!

3.     Have all homework, reports dialogues, and etc. turned in on the due date.  If you were in class attendance and are aware of the due date of the assignment and the assignment is not done it is a zero.

4.     When missing a class please talk to the teacher before leaving to get assignments.  The assignments need to be completed before leaving for any activity.

5.     Participation is mandatory and students must be willing to interact with other students

6.     I will try very hard to have grades available on a weekly basis (Monday) there fore the student may know at all times his/her status in the class.

7.     When trying to get the teacher’s attention, please raise your hand and allow the teacher to say your name before you begin speaking.

8.     If a student disagrees with anything the teacher has decided be willing to come in and visit one-on-one to discuss it appropriately.

9.     If the teacher gives the student a detention please serve it in the teacher’s room.  If the student is a “no-show” the detention will be referred to the office.

10.           Consequences:  1st violation- verbal warning, 2nd – before or after school detention, 3rd violation- office referral.

First Semester

Week1- review alfabeto y vocales en español, presentations, nombres nuevos, reglas (rules and expectations).

 

Week2- Lección 1- Vocabulario, El español y tu futuro, Los saludos, Las despedidas, La edad, colores, numero de teléfono y numeros 0-100

 

Week3- Lección 1- review vocabulario, La hora, los apodos, expresiones de la clase, Dias de la semana, Meses, horario,  y numeros 100-billion, y escuchar

 

Week4- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, Unit test.

 

Week5- Unidad de paises hispanohablantes, Interactive activities

 

Week6-Lección 2- Vocabulario, talking about what you need, describe your room, talking about what you want and need to do

 

Week7- Lección2- verbos –ar, ser y estar, practice and activities, y escuchar

 

Week8- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week9- Lección 3- Vocabulario, talking about class schedules and events, telling time, telling what time something happens y verbos –ir y -er

 

Week10- Lección 3- Vocabulario,talking about being late, describing people and things, talking about things you like and why, and verbos –ir y –er, y escuchar

 

Week11- Create dialogue, Dia de Los Muertos activity, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week 12- Unidad de Mexico, Internet activity, y Presentaciones

 

Week 13- Lección 4 – Vocabulario, talking about what you like to do, discussing free time verbos reflexivos – gustar

 

Week 14- Lección 4- Review Vocabulario, location, talking about where you and others go to during free time, and verbos regulares de –ir, y escuchar

 

Week 15- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week 16 – Unidad de Republica Dominicana y Puerto Rico, Activity and presentation

 

Week 17- Review for Semester Final

 

Week 18 – Semester Final y Activity of Navidad

Second Semester

 

Week 19-Lección 5- vocabulario, weather, how often you do things, typical week

 

Week 20- Lección 5- Review vocabulario, today’s date, weekly activities, presente del verbo tener, venir, acabar de, y escuchar

 

Week 21- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week 22- Unidad de Nicaragua y Costa Rica, Activity and presentation

 

Week 23 – Lección 6 – Vocabulario, describing family and people, verbos de hacer, salir, poner, and deber

 

Week 24- Lección 6- Review vocabulario,describing what the family does together, discussing problems and giving advice,  and verbos decir and tener y cambios e-ie y e-I, y escuchar

 

Week 25- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week 26- Unidad de Venezuela y Colombia activity and presentation

 

Week 27- Lección 7- Vocabulario, talking on the telephone, extending and accepting invitations, Actividades, y verbos dar, poner, cambios 0-ue, u-ue

 

Week 28- Lección 7- Review vocabulario, making plans, talking about getting ready, refusing and invitation, making an excuse Numeros Ordinales, y escuchar

 

Week 29- Create dialogue, review for Vocabulary and Unit test, Vocabulary test, and Unit test

 

Week 30- Unidad de Argentina y Chile, presentation and activity

 

Week 31- Lección 8- Vocabulario, talking about food and meals, commenting on food, making polite requests
