Students in Spanish 2 will continue their study of the Spanish language and the culture and customs of the people in the Spanish speaking countries. The students in Spanish 2 will need to increase their proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the Spanish culture and language. Students will be expected to actively participate in all class activities as well as individual work outside of class. Each student will increase personal proficiency through an active use of the language. In Spanish 2 each student will be expected to actively use their proficiency in the target language by listening, speaking, reading, and writing in class activities. The instructor will speak almost entirely in Spanish so students will become accustomed to hearing the target language and work toward gaining understanding. Spanish 2 will begin with a review of the material covered in Spanish 1. In Spanish 2 the students will learn several verb tenses of –ar, -er, and-ir. This will be incorporated in authentic group activities. ¡Bienvenidos!
Grading System: (per semester)
The grading for each semester will include:
Verbal participation 25%
1 Major project 10%
1 Major paper 10% (2 pages)
Daily Assignments 15%
Tests 40% (4 tests per semester)
Classroom Rules:
- Bring a good attitude and a smile
- Be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be tardy
- Bring materials to class every day that are needed for Spanish class
- Do not leave the room without permission
- Speak in Spanish as much as possible
- You may use the restroom during the first 5 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class time (depending on teacher’s instruction).
- Disciplinary problems will be discussed, if needed, after class, before or after school, or by appointment. Not during class time!
- Gum, food, candy, or pop will not be permitted unless for exceptions made by the teacher.
- Be ready to learn and have fun!!!!
Expectations
- Respect for one another (ie; if something doesn’t belong to you ask for permission before taking it)
- Ask questions – if teacher is speaking in Spanish too fast, you are confused, or totally lost, please ask questions. THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS!!!
- Have all homework, reports, dialogues, and other assignments turned in on the due date. If you were in class attendance and/or are aware of the due date of the assignment and the assignment is not done it is a zero.
- When missing a class please talk to the teacher before leaving to get assignments. Assignments will need to be completed before leaving.
- Participation is mandatory and students must be willing interact with other students.
- I will try very hard to have grades available on a weekly basis (Monday) therefore the student may know at all times his/her status in the class.
- When trying to get the teacher’s attention, please raise your hand and allow the teacher to say your name before you begin speaking.
- If a student disagrees with anything the teacher has made a decision about, please be willing to come in and visit one-on-one to discuss it appropriately.
- If the teacher gives the student a detention please serve it in the teacher’s room. If the student is a “no-show” the detention will be referred to room 101.
- Consequences: 1st violation – verbal warning, 2nd violation – before or after school detention, 3rd violation – room 101.
First Semester
Week 1 –review alphabet and vowels in Spanish, introductions, new names, rules and expectations.
Week 2 – Lección 1 – vocabulary, introducing yourself and others, describing people
Week 3 – Lección 1 – review vocabulary, talking about what you and others do saying what you like and don’t like, listening quiz
Week 4 – Create dialogue, review for vocabulary and unit test, vocabulary test, unit test.
Week 5 – Unidad de paises hispanohablantes (España), interactive activities.
Week 6 – Lección 2 – vocabulario, talking about how you’re feeling, making suggestions and responding to them.
Week 7 – Lección 2 – review vocabulario, verbos –ar, ser vs.estar, querer, y poder saying if something has already been done, asking for and offering help, describing your city or town, y prueba de escuchar.
Week 8- Create dialogue (unit test), review for vocabulary and unit test, vocabulary test, unit test
Week 9 – Lección 3 – vocabulario, talking about your daily routine, talking about responsibilities, and complaining.
Week 10 – Lección 3 – review vocabulario, talking about hobbies and pastimes, saying how long something has been going on, lo, la, los, las, vestirse y prueba de escuchar.
Week 11 – Prepare for speaking test, Día de Los Muertos activity, review for vocabulario and speaking test, vocabulary test, unit test.
Week 12 – Unidad de México, Internet activity, y presentaciones.
Week 13 – Lección 4 – vocabulario, asking for and giving opinions, giving advice, and talking about things and people you know.
Week 14 – Lección 4 – review vocabulario, making comparisons, making plans, verbos – tenso condiciónal, y prueba de escuchar.
Week 15 – Create dialogue, review vocabulario and unit test,
Week 16 – Unidad de República Domincana y Puerto Rico, Activity and presentation.
Week 17 – Activity for Navidad
Week 18 – Review for semester final and semester final
Second Semester
Week 19 – Lección 5 – vocabulario, talking about staying fit and healthy, and telling someone what to do and not to do.
Week 20 – Lección 5 – review vocabulario, giving explanations, dormir, poder and – ir y –er verbos in el pretérito, y prueba de escuchar.
Week 21 – review for vocabulario and unit test, vocabulary test and unit test.
Week 22- Unidad de Nicaragua y Costa Rica, activity and presentations
Week 23 – Lección 6 – vocabulario, asking for and giving information, and relating a series of events.
Week 24 – Lección 6 – review vocabulario, ordering in a restaurant, saber vs. conocer, pedir, servir, and traer in el pretérito y prueba de escuchar.
Week 25 – Prepare for speaking test (unit test), review for vocabulario and unit test, vocabulary test and unit test.
Week 26 – Unidad de Venezuela y Colombia, activity and presentation.
Week 27 – Lección 7 – vocabualrio, talking about what you used to (el imperfecto) and saying what you used to like and dislike.
Week 28 – Lección 7 – review vocabulario, describing what people and things were like, using comparisons to describe people, el imperfecto de –ar, -er, -ir verbos y prueba de escuchar.
Week 29 – Create dialogue, review for vocabulario and unit test, vocabulary test, unit test.
Week 30 – Unidad de Argentina y Chile, presentation and activity.
Week 31 – Lección 8 – vocabulario, describing a past event, and saying why you couldn’t do something.
