Course Syllabus

August 15, 2007

7th Grade Art is a required Art class dedicated to learning about the Elements and Principles of Design, and using that knowledge to create art.   The text used is Exploring Visual Design by Gatto, Porter, and Selleck.   The chapters cover all the design elements with excellent reproductions of art.   In addition to using this text, artists will be identified whose art illustrates the design element being studied, with a brief history of each artist.

Each student will need a spiral notebook.   It will be used to take notes from each chapter.   Included will be handouts, drawings, and artist information.   The notebooks will stay in the room unless taken home to study for a quiz, which are given after each chapter.

A variety of projects will be completed throughout the semester.   Work will be done in marker, colored pencil, paint, and other various media.

Behavior is a very important component of the art room.   Students are to come to class prepared to work.   If you are late to class you will have to make up the time after school.   Students at all times are to be respectful of the teacher, other students, their artwork and supplies in the room.    If you do not follow these rules you will be given a detention.    This class is not considered a traditional classroom; it is a room where students must move about getting supplies and working on projects.   A student must be willing to use self-discipline in the area of behavior and work ethics.

Absences:   The school allows 10 missed days during the semester.   If you go over that amount you will need to get signed permission from the teacher if you wish to receive credit.

Make-up work:   You have two days to make up work for any absence.   If you know you are going to be gone for any reason you need to have the work made up before you leave.   If you miss in class work on sketches or project work, it is your responsibility to come in after school to get assignments or put in extra work time.   Extra time will be given at the discretion of the Teacher.

Grades will be given in the following percentages:

55%    Projects     25%Quizzes    15% Behavior     5%Notebook

NO LATE WORK OR PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE ASSIGNED DUE DATE!!!!!
