Art 2 is a class that continues the experiences of Art 1, and expands on learned information. The emphasis of semester 1 will include sculptural work, with semester 2 being bases on 2-dimensional artwork. The Visual Experience and Exploring Visual Design will be the main reference books. With each lesson, Artists will be studied that have created artwork similar to assignments that will be given.
AREAS OF STUDY
Project 1 Card board Design or Humble Cardboard
This project recycles cardboard in the room
Artist of study is Hockney
Review the four balance styles of formal, informal, approximate symmetry and radial
Review Rhythm, repetition, alternation, and progression
Review color schemes
Create a model of a vehicle that can transport people on the ground, underground, aboveground, on or underwater, in space, or combinations thereof.
Project 2 The Retablo (Memory Box)
Artists of study are from Latin America
Discuss the process of adapting a Retablo to our culture
Review the variety of medium available for project and the process of decoration
Create a Retablo, personal memory box
Project 3 Wood Relief Sculpture
Artist of study is Louise Nevelson
Review balance, rhythm, and movement and the application to the project
Discuss the processes to complete the project (burning or painting) and adding mosaic tiles
Create a Wood Relief Sculpture
Project 4 Watercolor Painting
Artists of study is Winslow Homer and Georgia O’Keeffe
Students will create a watercolor book learning 24 different methods
Review composition, and subject matter possibilities
Create a Watercolor Book with personalized cover
Create a watercolor painting, and mat when finished
Project 5 Pick Up Sticks Design
Artists of study
Discuss qualities that make a good 2-D design
Review Medium and process
Create a Design titled Pick up Sticks
Project 6 Floating Worlds
Artists of study is Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely
Review of perspective and illusion
Practice making spheres and backgrounds
Discuss color schemes an the use of colored pencils in shading
Create a design called Floating Worlds that show the illusion of depth with spherical worlds
Project 7 Clay boxes or Nature Vases

Review the slab method and how to create a box and lid or vase
Discuss decoration processes in clay
Review glazes: underglaze and overgrlaze

Projects will be changed if needed
Sketches will be due on Thursdays. They will be either choice or assigned subject ideas. Assignment sheets will be given for each quarter listing the weekly sketches due
Behavior is a very important component of the art room. Students are to come to class prepared to work. If you are late to class you will have to make p the time after school. Students at all times are to be respectful of the teacher, other students, their artwork and supplies in the room. If you do not follow these rules you will be given a detention. This class is not considered a traditional classroom; it is a room where students must move about getting supplies and working on projects. A student must be willing to use self-discipline in the area of behavior and work ethics.
Absences: The school allows 10 missed days during the semester. If you go over that amount you will need to get signed permission from the teacher if you wish to receive credit
Make-up work: You have two days to make up work for any absence. If you know you are going to be gone for any reason you need to have the work made up before you leave. If you miss in class work on sketches or project work, it is your responsibility to come in after school to get assignments or put in extra work time. Extra time will be given at the discretion of the Teacher.
Grades will be given in the following percentages:
25% Sketchbook
60% Projects
10% Behavior
Semester tests will count 10% of Semester grade
NO LATE SKETCHES OR PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE ASSIGNED DUE DATE!!!!!
