PURPOSE

In Chapter 1 and 2 we will review basic facts. The metric system will be review, significant figurers and solving for the unknown in equations.

Chapter 3 we study velocity and acceleration. The first part of the chapter will be done analyzing graphs and how a student can change from one to the other graph. The second part of the chapter will deal with solving velocity, acceleration and Newton's laws.

Chapter 4 is a chapter that describes forces. These forces can , friction and parallel forces.

In Chapter 5 we will study circular and rotary motion. The types of motion in circular will be a curved path, circular path, and vertical circle. Rotary motion we will study angular velocity, angular acceleration, and angular inertia.

Chapter 6 is the last chapter that involves forces. The three areas that we will study is work, energy and momentum. In energy, we will deal with kinetic and potential energy. We will study momentum using inelastic and elastic collisions.

After Winter break we will study a unit of electricity. In this unit we will cover static electricity, capacitors, diagram circuits, series circuits, and parallel circuits. This cover chapter 16 and 17 in the book.

We will have a unit one waves. We will study the nature of waves, reflection, and refraction. This covers chapters 10,13,14 in the book.

The last unit will be on heat or phases of matter. In this unit we will talk about solid, liquid and gaseous phase. We will also work on thermal expansion, heat capacity, specific heat , heat of fusion, heat of vaporization. This is cover in chapters 8 and 9.

STUDENT GRADING

Homework and quizzes will be worth 20% . Labs will be worth 5%. Tests will be worth 50%. A notebook will be worth 25%. Each quarter will be given a percentage value, they will be added along with a semester test to find your grade. The semester test will be comprehensive and is worth 10% of your total grade. The way it works is that the maximum value for one quarter is 45% and the other quarter is 45% and the semester is 10%. So it works out to be .45 + .45 + .10 = 1.00 X 100 = SEMESTER GRADE.

MAKE UP WORK

You will have till the day of the test in that chapter to make up work for any absence. After the test the work will not be graded.

CLASSROOM RULES

Students are to come to class prepared which includes, bring all materials and being on time. Students at all times are to be respectful of the teacher and other students in the room. If you do not follow these rules you will be given a detention. Detentions will vary depending on the negative action and will be at the discretion of the teacher.

ABSENCES

The school allows for 10 missed days during the semester. If you go over this amount you will need to ge signed permission from the teacher if you wish to receive credit.
